Replacing a Roof in Rogers County's Seat
Claremore, Oklahoma is the seat of Rogers County, home to 19,580 people at the 2020 Census and an estimated 20,681 by mid-2025. Its name, the story goes, came from a clerk's misspelling of "Clermont." Roof work here ranges from brick storefronts downtown to houses that sat near the path of the 2024 tornado.
This site connects homeowners and landlords with one registered roofer who serves Claremore. You get a free inspection and a written, line-by-line estimate. We do not install roofs ourselves, and you are never obliged to hire anyone.
Claremore Housing: Owners, Renters and History
Claremore has more renters than most towns around it. Only 53.2% of homes are owner-occupied, the lowest share among the ten towns this site serves, and the median owner-occupied value is $188,700 (Census ACS, 2020–24). That makes landlords a big part of the roofing picture here.
The town added housing steadily, from 6,784 units in 2000 to 8,358 in 2020. It has 7,917 households averaging 2.36 people, and owners with a mortgage spend a median $1,318 a month on housing costs.
History is close at hand. The Downtown Claremore Historic District joined the National Register of Historic Places in 2016, and the Will Rogers Hotel is listed too. If your building sits in or near that district, mention it at the inspection so the roofer can check with the city about any extra steps.

What Claremore Homeowners Can Request
- Roof replacement. A full tear-off and new roof, whether it covers your own home or a rental between tenants.
- Storm and hail damage. A documented inspection after severe weather, with photos you can share with an insurer or a property manager.
- Metal roof replacement. Standing-seam or panel roofs for owners rebuilding after wind damage who want a sturdier system.
- Shingle roof replacement. Impact-rated or architectural shingles in colors that suit older neighborhoods as well as newer ones.
- Roof repair. Fixes for a single leak, lost shingles or tired flashing when a full replacement can wait.
The 2024 Tornado and Other Claremore Storms
Late on the evening of May 25, 2024, an EF3 tornado formed 5 miles east-northeast of Owasso and ran 23.9 miles to just west-northwest of Pryor, passing Claremore on the way. The NWS tornado database lists it at about 2,000 yards wide, more than a mile, with 2 deaths and 23 injuries. News 9 reported that the weather service's survey covered the area east of Claremore and north of Highway 20.
It was not the first. The same database records an EF2 on March 30, 2016, that ran from 2.5 miles southwest to 4.5 miles east of Claremore, and an F2 in town on April 2, 1982.
Hail is the steadier risk, peaking from mid-April to mid-May with a smaller November bump. If you still have unrepaired damage from 2024, a fresh inspection is worth booking.

Permits in Claremore
We have not found a Claremore page that says when a re-roof needs a permit, so we will not guess. Ask your roofer and Claremore's Community Development Services (918-341-2066, ext. 213 or 216) before work begins.
- Where it happens. Permits & Inspections is part of Community Development Services at 724 Ramm Road.
- Online portal. The city takes permit applications through claremoreok.viewpointcloud.com, so your roofer may file there.
- Historic district homes. If you are in the downtown district, ask the same office whether anything extra applies.
How Much a Claremore Roof Costs
The city does not publish roofing prices, and neither does anyone else for Claremore alone. Online estimators for the Tulsa area offer these ballpark ranges:
- Asphalt shingles, general: $5–$6 a square foot, from Homeyou (2026).
- A 1,000 sq ft asphalt roof with tear-off and underlayment: $4,625–$9,250, or about $6.61 a square foot, from ContractorPlus (2026).
- Installed metal: $6.44–$13.92 a square foot, from Handoff (2026).
- A complete metal roof: $25,500–$39,600, from Homeyou (2026).
Local factors include older downtown buildings with complex rooflines, rentals where the timing has to suit tenants, and storm repairs where insurance sets part of the budget. Get the cost calculator estimate for your home, then compare it with the roof replacement cost guide.
A Local Option for Claremore
In 1903, drillers looking for oil hit artesian mineral water instead, and visitors soon came for the radium water's supposed healing powers. The town incorporated that same year, according to the Oklahoma Historical Society. Will Rogers bought 20 acres here in 1911, and the site became his memorial after his death in 1935.
- Knows the landmarks. From the Will Rogers Memorial to the J.M. Davis Arms & Historical Museum, home of "the world's largest private gun collection," your roofer works these streets.
- Campus-area rentals. Rogers State University now fills the old Oklahoma Military Academy campus, set up in 1919, and nearby rentals need roofs too.
- Paper first. You get a written estimate before any work starts.
- One call. One registered roofer, not a stack of sales calls.
Claremore also gave the world singer Patti Page, astronaut Stuart Roosa and Lynn Riggs, whose play Green Grows the Lilacs became the basis for the famous musical named after the state.

Good to Know in Claremore
Do I need a permit to replace my roof in Claremore?
We could not confirm the city's rule for re-roofs, so ask your roofer and then call Community Development Services at 918-341-2066, extension 213 or 216. The city handles permit applications through its online portal, and your roofer will know how to file if one is needed.
My roof still shows damage from the May 2024 tornado. Is it too late?
Not for an inspection. Any insurance deadline depends on your policy, so call your insurer to check where your claim stands. A roofer can document current damage, but handling the claim is up to you, your insurer or a licensed public adjuster.
I own a rental in Claremore. Can I use this service?
Yes. Landlords request inspections the same way homeowners do. Tell us it is a rental so the roofer can coordinate access with your tenants. The estimate comes to you, the owner, and you decide what gets done and when. Asking costs nothing.
What if my insurer denies the claim after I sign a contract?
Oklahoma gives you 72 hours to cancel a residential roofing contract paid from insurance after you receive the insurer's written denial. The roofer must refund payments within 10 business days. Keep the denial letter with your contract, and read the details on our Oklahoma roofing rules page.
Does a historic district change anything?
Possibly. The Downtown Claremore Historic District is on the National Register, but we have not found a city roofing rule tied to it. Ask Community Development Services whether your address has any review steps before you choose materials or colors.
